Ann Martin touched American pop cultute back in 1985 with her children's book series, The Babysitter's Club. With over 300 books written the series was a huge financial success and it was a bit overwhelming. That is where Merrill Lynch and specifically Nancy Heiser came in to help create the Ann Martin Foundation. This non-profit organization is focused on making things better for under priviledged children and animals in need by providing resources to organizations like the SPCA, and projects like Children's Dance Theatre and donated libraries.

Brad Hill's family has handled concessions on Liberty Island since his grandfather started the business back in 1931. When the park service decided to consolidate the two islands into a new 10 year contract, Brad was put in a tough position having to square off against multi-billion dollar corporations for the proposal. Not having sufficient funds to renovate all the facilities on the islands as he wanted, he turned Merrill Lynch and his advisor Josh Frankel for help.
